I love the good old cheap acrylic DK yarn best!

Yes, I am a Cheap Hooker XD
My favourite brands are Robin, Yarnfair, Woolcraft New Fashion and Sirdar Bonus DK and Baby, and for bigger projects I use Robin and Wizz Aran weight. I like using acrylic DK because it can be quite thick, but still thin enough to make tiny toys from. I hate thin DK with a passion! DK is cheap too, so I can afford to buy loads of it at once, and it's also washable.
I have also recieved some lovely American yarn from my crafty friends, which include
Red Heart Super Saver, Caron Simply Soft and Sugar And Cream.

The Red Heart is lovely and thick (very thick compared to the DK) and I like to use it for bigger amigurumi as it works up quicker than the DK. The Simply Soft is still WW but is thinner, just like the DK, yet it has a lovely shine. I loved the Sugar and Cream cotton too as it's so soft and comes in some interesting colours.
any yarn will do for me lol
ReplyDeletei had just about finished the shawl in which i've been using 4ply sock yarn i like the variegated colours but its not really ideal for amis
Yeah I bought some 4 ply a while ago for some Blythe clothes. I think it would be really tough to use it for amigurumi.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the DK you sent me. I need to get some more of that, especially for Blythe clothes, but I'll need to order if from over there since it seems like the only DK/not-worsted yarn we have is baby yarn. That's cool, but pastels are kinda sickening after a while. Or sock yarn, which isn't too bad. but I'd prefer to make socks with it.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, you said Red Heart is lovely and thick. Over here, that's like a sin! D: RHSS is like the whore of yarns. Everyone uses it, but no one's too crazy about it. Obv I need to send you some more yarn.
Since you're mostly doing amigurumi's, would you prefer to stick with acrylic or wool-blends rather than just wool?
Jill - I'll send you some DK! Maybe it's time for another yarn swap?!
ReplyDeleteFor amigurumi I like Red Heart too, for clothes and blankets I love Caron simply soft eco made from recycled soda bottles.
