I've worked with a lot of nasty white DK. Like I said last week, I hate thin yarn, and white always seems to come up extra thin. I think it's because all the bleaching it has to go through, I don't know. Some of the worst yarn I've used has actually been from some of my favourite brands, like Robin and Woolcraft. When I find a nice white yarn I buy loads of it!
Interesting... I thought it was just me - I can't find a decent white yarn - they split and fray as I work with them. I've got a couple of expensive cotton yarns, but they've got no 'give' in them so no good for ami's. I use cream now when white is needed - I just avoid snowmen!
ReplyDeletei haven't used a lot of white wool(except for the knitted character lol) I'm not keen on using black wool, I find, even with good light, its so hard to see the stitches you just have to blag it and hope that its ok at the finish. Also I buy The Get Crafting Mag especially with free wool but that can be cheap and nasty, it splits so easy and can be joined in the middle with a knot
ReplyDeleteMonkey Lady - You're not alone!! I switch to cream when I don't have any decent white too. The stuff I'm using at the moment is just called Double Knitting by Sheena Anne. It was £2.29 for 2 balls from Pound Strecher lol! It's some of the cheapest, yet nicest, I've used :)
ReplyDeleteJoan - Black is horrible to use too, like you said you can't see what you're doing! The free yarn from Get Crafty sounds nasty! I've never seen that mag before - do you have to order it in?
