Cactus Monsters!

Thought I'd try making something different yesterday, so I looked down my list of things to make from my Len Giveaway and found Cayden's idea about Cactus Monsters. So I came up with this guy...

This is Specimen 101! He was totally freeformed - I just made him up as I went along and didn't write the pattern down either. Means he is a one-of-a-kind mutant cactus!

I made him with the usual DK acrylic yarn and 3.5mm hook. I also added eyebrows as I thought it would be fun to make him look angry!

He also has a purple flower button on his head. He's not happy with it - he said it makes him look girly :D

I originally made him to put in my Etsy shop or to take to the craft fair in December, but I like him so much I'm thinking of keeping him. Thanks to Cayden for the inspiration!

I hope you all like!

  1. Awesome! He's probably not too happy with the matching purple pot either. He has the perfect facial expression! He kind of looks like a baby cactus throwing a temper tantrum :)

  3. Pahahaha, he's so angry! Grrr.

You should give him a prickle...spine...whatever those sharp things that protrude from cacti are called... >.<

I was just going through my sketchbook and found a cactus sketch and was like "I really need to make this." Great minds, ay? ;]

Jill - I was thinking about making some prickly bits for him, but I wasn't sure how to do it :( Any ideas? And you're right, great minds lol! :p

  6. Ah... he's fantastic! You've managed to really give him some character. I have the same problem with items I create - I want to keep them all too!

  7. Prickle-less cacti! :p

    Thanks Richiesoft - it's always difficult to sell/giveaway stuff you've made! :(

  8. OK I lied, he apparently did have prickles. Ahaha. I think I might embroider them. And a big fat flower on his head. Like this, even if it's an illustration: http://www.balloonmaniacs.com/images/giantcactusballoon.jpg

    THE WAR OF CACTUS AMI'S!

  9. Aha! War it is! I was going to crochet a flower for his head but got lazy and put a flower button on instead :( I even thought about putting a second head on him! So he could have a friend to talk to lol! XD

You brought my idea to life so well! I absolutely love how much character you gave him as well as having his own plant pot.

  11. Thanks Cayden! :D I wasn't sure exactly what a cactus monster should look like, so I just did a cactus with a face and ears lol! :D

  14. You should definitely keep him. As angry as he is he's just the cutest thing. Especially with the matching flower and bucket. LOL

I almost want to give you lots of obscure things to see you make them :P
