Glad That's Over!

No Etsy Friday this week, instead..

I'm back from the 'craft fair'! It went ok for a first go, though it wasn't really a craft fair. It was more of a shopping evening, as I was one of about only 3 stalls that had handmade items.

I turned up at about 6pm armed with my army of ami's, and set up the stall. As it was in a nursery the tables were tiny so I had 2. Here's me *waves* sat behind my ami table, crocheting to keep myself amused lol!

Here's my second table, with bits like stress balls, flowers, keyrings, scarves and magnets. And Pet Rocks. I had loads of Pet Rocks lol! Check out that tiny chair in the background! They're toddler chairs! I had to sit on that for hours!

I felt really exposed sitting behind my tables. I'm very judgemental about my stuff and felt like people were, well, judging me lol! I didn't like it atall and wanted to go home, but I stuck it out and stayed.

Here's a pink Monstie guarding my money, and the square I was crocheting for the Knit-A-Square charity.

I took my Mum along for help and support, and about an hour in my Dad, Nan, Auntie and Uncle turned up. Also at the event was an old friend from school; she had a stall selling jewellery and cards. I really liked her stuff, especially the bracelets. I haven't seen her since leaving school in 2001 so it was nice to catch up.

Here's me hiding from my Mum. I hate having my photo taken lol

All in all it was a good experience. There weren't many people there to be honest, but I made a profit so it wasn't all bad! Now I have the big one at Brentwood coming up. That IS gonna be busy!

  1. LOVE YOUR TATTOO. If it isn't, love what you did with the Sharpie on your wrist. Ahaha.

That's fab! I need to find a craft fair. And I need to start my Etsy. Warning, I will be emailing you about prices sometime in the not too distant future. (Heck, it might be like in a few months, so don't get too excited. :b)

That looks like so much fun! Love the mini pink Monstie!

  2. hahaha, it's funny that you said you felt like everyone was judging you because i had my first craft show that was yesterday and today and it was at my college and I felt like everyone was judging me too.

  4. Well done! Nice to get the first one out the way. I'm sure you will do brilliantly at the Brentwood fair looking at your stuff! I'm sure your crocheting manically now to try and make tons of stuff to have ready, or do you already have tons made?

Mind me asking how much the stall is for the Brentwood fair? Perhaps I should branch out...

  5. Thank you Kerry! Thankfully I've finished all my items for Brentwood now, after many month of continuous crocheting lol

The Brentwood fair was £70 a table :O It was the only fair I knew about at the time, I didn't know you could get tables at other fairs for cheaper lol! It's run by Aztec, their website is http://www.aztecevents.co.uk/ :)

  6. I've always been to scared to invest in a stall for that much because I think that the things I make would be too small and not sell very well! I'm going to be so interested to see how you do! Your an inspiration!

I think if I do it my things will be more blanket focused. Baby blankets, hot pot holders, crazy granny blankets etc. Certainly some ami's too though :)Certainly a craft fair this close to x-mas is very useful!

You mentioned stalls at other places that are cheaper? I thought all stalls were as expensive as at least £70 each?

  8. Kerry - Thank You! I don't know if my stuff will sell either, I'm just doing it for something to do, not really to make any money! I'm so bored most of the time it's really given me something to do over the year!
The other fairs I know about that are cheaper are ones at local schools in Basildon they're usually about £10 a table (like the one I've just done.) I know there's a christmas market at St teresas catholic primary school in basildon on 5th dec 11am-4:30pm £10 a stall. I know there's some more out there, if you were interested I could find out for you?

And Thanks Displacedmind!! It's a horrible feeling when you show people your stuff, ain't it! Really uncomfy!

  9. Sorry its taken me a while to get back to this comment, I didn't see you had replied!

I think we definitly will have a go at this! My partner makes soap and obviously I crochet. So most likely we will share stalls and have soap and crochet items! We are certainly not ready to start selling this year but Toby is working on hist first soap batches to sell on Etsy. I want to eventually get things back up on etsy again.

    Perhaps by next x-mas!

I can't WAIT to see how you do next Sunday. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! We are possibly thinking of coming to the fair, but we don't have a car so its a pretty long bus trip for us.

  10. Aawww Thank You! I'm getting nervous about it now lol! Would be great to see you there! :D You'd know who I was just by the amis lol!

That's what I did before doing my first craft fair, I got loads of stuff up in my Etsy shop. That way you can see what sort of things are popular and stuff :) Let me know when you and your partner have items up in your shops - I'd love to have a look! :D
